How the storms have helped our flower field

If you are returning for a little update, we have lots to tell!
Only 3 days ago we welcomed little Willow our new addition to the Goat farm. We have just updated our page on the website to introduce you to our little goat herd. She is settling in lovely and Lena, mum is such a fantastic Mum, we are making sure she rests and gets lots of treats.
While the storms have been passing over our Ribiera Sacra, new home, we have really noticed a change in the flower field. In fact, I have not been feeding the plants as much as I was in this early growth stage.
Upon my curiosity and delight to see my plants watered and 3 inches taller after the first storm, I became very curious about why plants love the storms so much.
So here comes the science. When we get lightning storms the nitrogen in the air which can not be absorbed is split by the intense electrical heat of the storm and splits, combining it with water and oxygen to form nitrates that then fall in the rain drops, land on the soil and absorbed by your plants root system.
Why plants need nitrogen!
Nitrogen is the absolute essential element for a plant to grow and produce energy to grow, also enabling it to create the essential proteins that form the green pigments that turn sunlight into food. Photosynthesis!
There is so much more plant science we could go into but you can all find it online by asking google to tell you. more. We find it fascinating and our favourite part of this project is the learning process. As we walk around the farm, our curiousity and our intuition tells us so much is going on beneath the surface. We are so overwhelmed by the wonder of nature and our new Flower field is bring us into a rythmn that connects us to the many beautiful facets of nature.
We know the world is changing right now and we are all experiences some really concerning shifts in our environments and weather patterns. What we can do, is think about our part, create a little space to participate, and take each day as it comes.
One thing I can promise is that there is more than we will ever imagine, more to come and we need to connect, share and trust in the bigger part we have to play.
