Volunteer at our farm!

Why Volunteer with Us!

The best answer to this is that you will be staying in a very beautiful area, getting an insight into Galician culture and be part of a special time on our farm, the lift off.  Everything is completely new and the jobs are  transformational projects.   You will be outside, moving your body, connecting your mind to the job and nature around you. We hope you learn, grow and connect!

The people we accept on the farm

We are interested in people comfortable with physical work, getting mud under their nails and initiating tasks that benefit the farm, not waiting for instruction.  We also give you guide on our targets and you can just get involved.  We do not want to instruct you all day, we want you to enjoy the environment.  You can put headphones on, listen to some podcasts, books or just work in the team, chatting.  It is up to you.  We do not expect to receive outgoing, chatty people.  We undertand the need for people to get away from the modern world.  Just find your comfort zone and support us achieve our goals.

When to volunteer?

This will depend on your life an availability, but we thought we would outline our projects and goals through the season and give you a little insight o

n what to expect with the weather and the community around those months.

That way you can decide and add more interest if there are cultural festivals or projects you would like to contribute towards.

ACCOMODATION

We do not offer free accommodation at the moment but:

There are 2 main options:

Option 1.  Stay in Taboada

Stay at the Pension in Taboada which is at most 60 Euros per night.  That can be quite high for many but we will offer you a breakfast and a meal at the farm each day.  We can also arrange to collect you and drop you back at the Pension.  Taboada is a very nice town with a few bars and many seasonal events.  There is a town square with local markets on the 4th and 20th of each month.  Buses run from the town centre to local towns and Lugo.  You can also extend your stay to see some of the local sites and the very beautiful Ribiera Sacra Canyon.

Option 2.  Stay at the Ribiera Sacra River

This is a great option if you have your own transport because it is further away. The accommodation is much cheaper at around 25 to 35 Euros each night.  There is the option of a shared dorm or a double room.   The hostel is beautifully placed and has an expresso bar and food options.   If you do not have a vehicle and you prefer this option, we can arrange transport, especially if there is more than one volunteer to collect.  If you prefer this option, we recommend looking at our group projects during the seasons.

Length of stay

That really is up to you and your budget.  If you would like to stay longer than a week, then we can see if there are any offers at the local hostels, but we usually prefer a commitment of a week or 2.  This is sufficient for you to enjoy your stay, see progress in your contribution and leave feeling refreshed by the nature and environment.

Daily work schedule and hours

Depending on the season and the weather, we set out schedules of work.   We only ask for 4 hours work each day and you can choose if you would like to do more but 5 hours is maximum.  We start in the morning, break for a brunch/lunch, and continue until the afternoon.  In the summer months we modify the hours or the work to stay out of the heat.  You can stay on the farm and relax or you can head back to your accommodation. There are plenty of walks and places to explore, it is up to you.  We do have to certify however, that our working day never ends so we will not be available to socialise after your hours.  Animals never let that happen, unfortunately.  So we make sure that during your stay we have an evening or afternoon away from the farm with you to socialise and celebrate your visit or we can go off to experience one of the local events.  If it is a quiet season, we might put on BBQ!

Either way, we want you to see this as a wholesome experience and know that we value your light and contribution to our farm.

if all of this interests you, you just need to look at the seasonal activities on the farm, see which you prefer and send us a message.  From there we can send you more information and get you here to help!
